About the event

Tom Beghin, Pianist - Director of Research at the Orpheus Institute

Beethoven and the piano Erard 1803 : Sonata " Waldstein " op.53 & Steibelt : Sonata op.64

Tom Beghin has been researching the impact of the arrival of the harpsichord-like Erard piano in 1803 on Beethoven's musical world. At the Orpheus Institute, he was able to have Chris Maene copy Beethoven's original piano from the Linz Museum. Beethoven's letters to the piano maker Streicher attest to his requests for modifications to the keyboard mechanics in order to recover the Viennese lightness. This day presents the fruits of 5 years of research, which are documented in a disc and a book.
