Presentation
At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the piano was at the heart of French musical life: an unavoidable presence in Parisian salons, it was the instrument of choice for amateur musicians as well as for the many virtuosos of all origins who settled in the capital. A new and innovative instrument, the piano owes its omnipresence in large part to the practice of arrangement, which allowed the pleasure of playing works originally written for the theater or public concert. Published in large quantities by the music publishers of the time, these arrangements and transcriptions are far from being purely commercial products: in the hands of the best pianist-composers of the time, they constitute a real field of experimentation of the expressive resources and sound possibilities of the pianos that are constantly coming out of the Parisian factories. Their rediscovery today on French instruments of the period represents a privileged access to the exploration of the French piano repertoire and writing of the beginning of the century, while also shedding new light on the interpretation of the vast contemporary catalog of sonatas, which remains little known.

Pedagogical and practical organization
The session will be preceded by several days in April and May, followed by a half day during which the trainees will be able to familiarize themselves with the various keyboard instruments available:
