About the event
A romantic singing tour around the tunes and songs of Pierre-Jean de Béranger.
Pierre-Jean de Béranger is the worthy representative of the French song during the first part of the 19th century.
Born in 1780, he found a protector in 1804 in the person of Lucien Bonaparte who, appreciating his verses and his first songs, granted him a power of attorney to receive the salary of member of the Institute until 1812. Thereafter, under the Restoration, he will be one of the fervent defenders of the "Legend of Bonaparte" defending against all odds the glories of the Republic and the Empire. Under the July monarchy, he was given the title of "national poet".
With his compositions, he sketches the habits and customs of his contemporaries and often reveals a caricatural spirit that equals the pencil strokes of the draftsman Daumier. But he is above all the inventor of the "philosophical song" and distinguishes himself from his predecessors by his subtle and meditative creations.
With this tour de chant, "Les infiniment petits", the ensemble Les Lunaisiens makes us rediscover this essential repertoire of a major chansonnier who contributed to the emergence of the Cénacle de la Nouvelle Athènes, an active center of the Parisian romantic movement. Béranger participated in the latter from 1824 to 1827.
Arnaud Marzorati
Arnaud Marzorati baritone and direction of the Lunaisiens
Arnaud Marzorati began singing at the Maîtrise du CMB in Versailles and obtained a first prize at the CNSM in Paris, where he perfected his skills, as well as at the Opera Studio in Lyon. His repertoire, illustrated by some thirty recordings, ranges from the baroque to contemporary creation. He has been invited by the Philharmonie de Paris, the Musée d'Orsay, the Opéra-Comique, the Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venice, the CMBV, France Musique....
With his ensemble Les Lunaisiens, he surrounds himself with artists who share the same ideal of "the art of the sung word". A lover of the history of French song, he is accompanied by the Royaumont Foundation in his musicological research.
Several recordings testify to the originality of his approach to historical songs and have been hailed by critics: Le Pape Musulman by Pierre-Jean de Béranger, La Bouche et l'Oreille, chansons de Gustave Nadaud and France 1789 released on the Alpha production label. Révolutions, on the revolutionary songs of the nineteenth century, and La Complainte de Lacenaire on the songs of the criminal "Children of Paradise" were released by Paraty productions. "Vote for me!" (Aparte) Les ballades de Monsieur Brassens (Muso 2018) as well as Sainte Hélène La Légende Napoléonienne (Muso 2021) with Sabine Devielhe extend the discography.
