The association
Who are we ?
Its ambition is to constitute a collection of period pianos of general interest allowing pianists and their artistic partners :
access to original pianos in places emblematic of the history of romanticism
while sharing knowledge and practices among its members (harpsichordists, specialized and modern pianists, collectors, restorers, musicologists and music lovers) and towards the public.
Our association refers both to the Parisian district of La Nouvelle Athènes, which brought together around 1830 the romantics George Sand, Chopin, Scheffer, and the piano maker Camille Pleyel, and to the spirit of dialogue and "Athenian" exchange desired among its members.
La Nouvelle Athènes - conceived collectively - in a spirit of dialogue between modern pianists, harpsichordists, "historically informed" pianists, restorers, collectors and musicologists, has been able to federate and propose in barely a year, several times of sharing, transmission of knowledge and practices, the provision of first period pianos, the starting point of a collection of general interest
concerts, records and masterclasses
through the knowledge and practice of period instruments
through an in-depth understanding of the language, aesthetics and playing techniques of this past.
